History
1948 Gwynedd-Mercy College is founded as a coeducational, independent, non-profit, comprehensive college sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of Merion, Pennsylvania. In founding Gwynedd-Mercy College, the present-day Sisters of Mercy dedicated themselves to providing—in the Philadelphia area — educational programs that stress scholarship and service. An all Sisters of Mercy faculty taught classes in the five-program curriculum of liberal arts transfer, pre-lab technician, merchandising, secretarial and medical secretarial.
1950 Twenty-one young women graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy Junior College.
1963 Gwynedd-Mercy College received approval to award the baccalaureate degree.
1964 The first senior class graduated, another relatively small class of 21, including 18 Sisters of Mercy. But, at the same commencement exercise, associate degrees were conferred on 83 others who completed the two-year junior college curriculum.
1971 A college-wide examination of the mission and philosophy revealed that the Gwynedd-Mercy College's distinctive difference was the way it was able to implement a curriculum that successfully combined technical or professional training with the liberal arts. Gwynedd-Mercy College was then designated a college of arts and sciences.
1975 The National League for Nursing degree approved the Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Gwynedd-Mercy was one of only a few colleges and universities in the nation to have accreditation in nursing at both the associate and bachelor levels
